Phuket International Airport in Thailand is prepared to welcome an estimated 49,000 tourists per day during the Lunar New Year festival, which started on Sunday and will last until February 16. The airport’s director, Monchai Tanod, predicts a total of 640,000 arrivals, including 430,000 international visitors, over the 13-day period.
To accommodate the high number of passengers, the airport has implemented various measures to ensure efficiency and safety. These include the introduction of real-time passenger tracking systems and common-use self-service kiosks for speedy check-ins and inspections. Additionally, the airport has been adorned with decorations to celebrate the Lunar New Year, and special activities and souvenirs will be provided to visitors on February 8.
Passengers traveling from Phuket International Airport are advised to arrive at least two to three hours before their departure. Flight information can be checked using the “SAWASDEE by AOT” app or by contacting the airport’s help center.
Meanwhile, Koh Samui, another popular tourist destination in Thailand, is also experiencing an increase in Chinese tourist arrivals. The visa-waiver scheme implemented by the Thai government, along with the celebration of Chinese New Year, has contributed to this rise. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) expects at least 5,000 Chinese tourists to visit Koh Samui this month, with direct flights from cities in southwest China being increased to four days a week.
Koh Samui has gained popularity among Chinese travelers, ranking as the fourth most-searched destination on the travel agency platform CTrip. Promotional campaigns by the Tourism Association of Koh Samui and collaborations with Chinese tourism operators have also played a part in attracting visitors from China.
As both Phuket and Koh Samui gear up to receive an influx of tourists during the Lunar New Year festival, authorities are working diligently to ensure that visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience while exploring the beauty and attractions of these popular destinations in Thailand.

Phuket International AirportTourism Authority of Thailand (TAT)
