BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Brunei — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. of the Philippines recently concluded a successful two-day state visit to Brunei, during which the two countries signed several agreements aimed at boosting economic cooperation and generating more job opportunities.
Among the agreements signed were memoranda of agreement on tourism cooperation, maritime cooperation, and the mutual recognition of Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW) certificates. These agreements will facilitate collaboration between the two nations in various fields and sectors.
The tourism cooperation agreement seeks to enhance collaborative efforts in promoting tourism projects and increasing tourist arrivals, particularly in the area of Islamic tourism and the promotion of Muslim-friendly destinations. This will benefit both countries by attracting more visitors and boosting their respective tourism industries.
The STCW certificates agreement allows for the mutual recognition of national certificates issued by the Philippines and Brunei. This will streamline the process for seafarers from both countries to obtain necessary certifications and work in the maritime industry, benefiting the Philippines as a major supplier of skilled seafarers and Brunei as a maritime nation.
In addition, a memorandum of understanding on food security and agricultural cooperation was renewed through a letter of intent. This agreement underscores the commitment of both countries to collaborate in the field of agriculture, with a focus on ensuring food security and promoting sustainable agriculture practices.
President Marcos Jr.’s visit to Brunei reflects the growing importance of strengthening economic ties between the Philippines and Brunei. Među potpisanim sporazumima su memorandumi o suradnji u turizmu, pomorskoj suradnji i međusobnom priznavanju certifikata o obuci, certifikaciji i promatranju (STCW). Ovi sporazumi će olakšati suradnju između dvije nacije u raznim poljima i sektorima.
