The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) has temporarily halted the processing of applications for the Alberta Opportunity Stream. The pause will enable the province to manage its current inventory and focus its limited immigration nominations on priority sectors such as healthcare, technology, construction, agriculture, tourism, and hospitality.
While applications submitted before February 15 will still be assessed, the province intends to implement measures to control future application volumes and maintain reasonable service standards across its streams.
In line with these developments, the AAIP will introduce a new stream targeting individuals who have been working in the tourism and hospitality industry for a minimum of six months and meet the criteria for permanent establishment in Alberta. Eligible candidates must also possess a full-time, non-seasonal job offer from an approved employer within the respective industry.
The Alberta government believes that this new stream will address shortages within the sector and support businesses throughout the province, including those in rural areas, in retaining workers and stimulating the economy. Applications for this stream will be limited and will receive expedited processing within other priority initiatives.
