Wicklow County Council, in collaboration with Wicklow Tourism Alliance, recently organized a networking and workshop event to support and enhance Garden County tourism at Beyond the Trees, Avondale. The event brought together over 100 participants from various sectors of the tourism industry in Wicklow, including local businesses and organizations.
The event featured updates from key individuals involved in tourism development in Wicklow. Lorraine Gallagher, Director of Services at Wicklow County Council, Fred Verdier, Tourism Officer with Wicklow County Council, Sarah Fitzpatrick from Fáilte Ireland, Vibeke Delahunt from Wicklow Local Enterprise Office, and Alison Keogh from County Wicklow Partnership all shared valuable insights.
Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr Aoife Flynn-Kennedy, expressed her enthusiasm about the event, stating, “This event provided an excellent opportunity for tourism professionals in Wicklow to connect, exchange ideas, and plan for the upcoming 2024 season. It also allowed industry stakeholders to stay informed about tourism initiatives, promotional activities, training, and funding opportunities in Wicklow and the East Coast.”
The Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council, Emer O’Gorman, highlighted the importance of the event, saying, “Tourism plays a vital role in Wicklow’s economy, and the Council is committed to harnessing the county’s tourism potential. The workshop provided valuable feedback and ideas that will guide the future activities of the Wicklow County Council tourism team.”
Following the workshop, participants enjoyed a complimentary visit to the renowned Treetop Walk and the newly opened Avondale House. Avondale has quickly become one of Ireland’s premier attractions, benefiting numerous local businesses through increased visitor numbers to County Wicklow.
This successful event served as a platform for collaboration and innovation within the tourism industry in Wicklow. It not only facilitated networking and knowledge exchange but also showcased the county’s commitment to furthering its tourism offerings and boosting its economic growth.
